Have you got the right balance for your social media?

In the last ten years, social media has truly become a way of life, in both personal and business life. Since 2004, the growth of this tool has been near exponential; with Facebook being the most mature at the time but only having 1 million users, compared to today’s figure of over 1 billion registered users. This unprecedented increase in popularity has proven successful in offering businesses of all sizes the opportunity to market freely, cheaply and simply - becoming a necessity. Maintaining an informative and interesting account for your audience is vital to anyone’s social media success, but do you know how often your should be sharing?

Social media frequency can either make or break the popularity of your social media, and potentially your overall business. Establishing the right balance for your audience is personal to their requirements, but in a general sense, research has established a guide to follow. Based on the findings, here is how to achieve this balance:

Twitter – 3 times per day, or more:
Engagement decreases slightly after the third tweet.
Facebook – 2 times per day, at most:
Twice a day is the level before likes and comments begin to drop off.
LinkedIn – 1 time per day:
20 posts per month (once per week) allows you to reach 60% of your audience.
Pinterest – 5 times per day, or more:
The top brands have experienced steady growth by adopting a multiple-times-per-day posting strategy.
Instagram – 1.5 times per day, or more:
Major brands post on average 1.5 times per day; there’s no drop-off engagement for posting more.

Proving this strategy does work are two of our clients, Fleur de Lys Bridal and the Colchester Business Enterprise Agency (Colbea). For both companies who offer different services/products, their social media engagement has increased significantly since using our digital communications services. Fleur de Lys Bridal post twice a day on all accounts, causing their Facebook page rise to over 3,800 Likes, whilst seeing regular engagement through likes, shares and comments. In turn, this has led to an increase in custom to their store from social media posts or online recommendations.
